SIMILAR or SAME ATTIRE

Category : Fashion

As ladies, we are normally concerned about the issue of having the same attire as a friend or anyone in the same event as us. Friend, what are you wearing to the party? I tend to panic when the answer she gives implies that we will be wearing the same clothes. Nattie, a friend and blog follower, said that wearing planned attires should never be the case.

I recommend that you find a SIMILAR dress not the SAME dress. The  other solution would be to choose something different. Alternatively, accessorize similarly so you have the same dress but a totally different look.

The Stripped outfit

I had never thought of wearing a similar attire with my best friend, but upon her birthday request I decided to do this. Despite wearing the same dress, we accessorized differently: wore different colour of shoes and dress (black and blue). Although the concept is the same, one can spot a difference.

You can both wear long chains, silver and gold chains with different details in order to create a difference. The clutches you carry can be different types and colours. If you both love rings and earrings then make them stand out but in a different way.

The trick is to match up your attires in the best way you can so that the difference is evident. Let people pay attention to the difference rather than the similar aspects of your attires.

Dress- Marabastad; Shoes – Legit; Earrings – Lovisa; Rings and Chain – H&M; Clutch bag – Marabastad

Dress- Marabastad; Shoes – Dar-es-Salaam,Tanzania; Earrings & chain – Legit; Ring – H&M; Clutch bag – Pretoria Central.

The African pants

Having the same interest in clothes with a friend can be the best thing. When you both love an African touch to your outfits, getting ideas for designs seems easier. You can also ‘steal’ each others clothes.

Top- Marabastad; Shoes – Mr Price; Pants – Dar-es-Salaam,Tanzania; Earrings – Accra,Ghana; Ring & Chain – H&M.

Top & Shoes – Mr Price; Pants – Dar-es-Salaam,Tanzania; Ring – H&M.

Sometimes the need to add an extra style to our outfits arises. Apart from the design of the pants, you can combine two different prints for that extra style. The material that you pick must have a print coordination that stands out. The prints must have colour coordination.

Despite this dilemma of similar or same attires, just remember:

FASHION PREFERENCE- Long or Short

Category : Fashion

Fashion preference always leads to the dilemma of long or short attires?

What’s your fashion preference? What drives you to actually pick the length you want to wear on a particular day? Let’s take a walk down this lane.

Long is certainly perfect for that formal dinner you need to attend with your friends or workmates.  The cold weather will absolutely warrants you to wear that long skirt or dress that’s in your closet. Well, sometimes  long is perfect for that classy touch that creates a mystery.

Top – Marabastad; Skirt – Marabastad; Shoes – Mr Price; Earrings – Lovisa; Rings – H&M; Necklace – H&M

I personally like it long when it has a fashionable styled touch. Long slits are an absolute #akuraclosetraid fashion favourite.

I believe that the long dress/skirt must set you apart when you walk on the streets. Remember, your STYLE needs  to speak for you. Therefore, that patterned off-shoulder dress you own is perfect.

Dress- Marabastad; Shoes – Mr Price; Earrings – Lovisa; Rings – H&M; Necklace – Mr Price; Clutch bag – Marabastad

Why short? Well, I like to show off my legs and own my femininity, who doesn’t? Short is a classy fashion choice for the club or an afternoon out with the girls or date.

Dress- Marabastad; Shoes – Legit; Earrings – Lovisa; Rings – H&M; Clutch bag – Marabastad

The challenge with short dress/skirts is getting the PERFECT SHOES that will ensure PERFECT COORDINATION. Closed or open-toes heels work miracles with short clothes.

You want your dress to stand out, but again the accessories (handbag/purse or jewellery) must be styled perfectly. I recommend purses with bright colours or with distinct details. Your jewellery needs to speak volumes as well, rings are my favourite.

AUTUMN CHILLS: BOOTS’ 👢👢SEASON

Category : Fashion

Since the cold season has began, boots are the current trend on social media, especially the thigh high boots. I am also rocking the 👢👢; although I tend not to follow trends unless it’s one I really like.

Just find your own style and rock it with authenticity & comfort😉.

The most important thing in any lady’s wardrobe – shoes. The most important thing in this cold season are the boots. Whether you wear the ankle boot, the knee high or the thigh high – they all work. 👢👢are simple to throw on and can make any outfit.

Autumn is one of the most beautiful times of the year, despite my battle with dry skin. However, one of the most difficult things to do in this beautiful season is dressing. There’s the fear of rain coming along and ruining a look. Could a pair of jeans, sweater top and sexy boots not fix this? This is certainly the one time our jeans all come out to play. Rocking them with the best combinations in the closet.

Polo-neck top – H&M, Cape Town; Pants,Fur Jacket & Boots – Marabastad, Pretoria; Necklace & Bangle – Kariokor Market, Nairobi, Kenya; Wig(hair) – Princess Hair Salon, Hatfield Square, Pretoria.

Recently, I have been in love with this fur half jacket. Funny enough, I bought it in summer. Oh, secret : Always buy stuff off season. It is amazing how cheap the itemyou want to buy in autumn/winter is at the onset of summer. Just throw it on top of that polo-neck top you own. The boots’ choice is for you to play with. All black will work with any colour you own. Remember~> Accessories! Look flashy even in the cold.

Boots – Factorie, Atterbury Mall ; Bangle – Kariokor Market, Nairobi, Kenya; Necklace – Swaziland Market; Bangle – Kariokor Market (gift), Nairobi, Kenya; Rings & Earrings – Dubois Mall, Nairobi Kenya.

Don’t we all find jeans, especially black high waist jeans, to be sassy? However, they tend to make us cold. Why not wear it with a pair of leggings/stocking to have the layers to keep us warm? A classy and sassy knitted sweater always works, especially on a Friday where most of our work places are relaxed on the official outfits.

Boots – Dubai (gift); Pants & Sweater top – Marabastad, Pretoria; Bangle – Kariokor Market (gift), Nairobi, Kenya; Rings & Earrings – Dubois Mall, Nairobi, Kenya; Handbag – Gikomba Market, Nairobi, Kenya.

Thigh High Boots!

These shoes are an absolute fashion saviour in the cold season because we still want to go clubbing. Oh wait, why not wear those thigh high 👢👢 with the denim shortdress you always rock in summer? Nothing beats a pair of shorts, long sassy shirt and thigh boots for the club 💃💃. The clubbing still feels good.

Boots – TeMbie’s, United Kingdom (graduation gift); Shorts – LeGit store, Pretoria; Earrings & Rings – Dubois Mall, Nairobi Kenya; Top– LeGit store.

(These boots 👢 are soon coming to Guateng 💃. Contact (📱 or 📧)  me for more details~> a few pairs are still in store.)

Knitted clothes! These ones are a must have in this season. This knitted sweater top I bought just at the end of summer was a good investment. The design of the neck allows me to play with it and wear it how I feel. The 👢👢 seal the deal.

Boots – TeMbie’s, United Kingdom (graduation gift); Dress – Pick n Pay Clothing, Hatfield, Pretoria; Earrings – (gift) Kariokor Market, Kenya; Rings – Dubois Mall, Nairobi Kenya.

Who says we can’t rock an African attire in the cold season? This yellow, pink and jungle green African print does it for me, (a hook up from my Cameroonian roommate 💖). The cold season absolutely feels like summer once more. Your tailored clothes can still keep you warm. The baggy, long-sleeved style makes this dress a must have in this autumn season.

  1.  Remember~> Maintain hairstyles that will also keep your head warm.
  2. Remember~> Stockings/leggings & jackets/trench-coats when it’s too cold.
  3. Remember~> Accessories! Look for colours to brighten your mood 😁.

GRADUATION: LADIES’ CORNER 💁

Category : Fashion

We, the gents and the ladies, all plan our outfits over months. We decide on one design or colour or type and price of the attire then change our minds; This is so normal and is human nature, especially when we want everything to be perfect. I had three outfits in mind; a pants-suit ( that I ended up not buying), a black off-shoulder velvet top with high-waist blue pants & an African attire. Well, the  AFRICAN ATTIRE won the ‘GRADUATION ATTIRE BATTLE😎’.

Top & Shoes~ LeGit Stores, Hatfield Plaza, Pretoria; Pants~ Sharasta, Hatfield Plaza, Pretoria; Earrings~ Kariokor Market, Nairobi Kenya; Purse~ Kenya; Ring~ Gift.

Ms Thandeka Khoza’s outfit was tailored just to her liking and taste. Her accessories were absolutely what she likes and wears all the time. “I love when clothes make cultural statements and I think personal style is really cool💁💁” Anne Hathaway. The length of her dress was just perfect, & the details at the bottom of the dress gave it a unique🙌 touch. Many of us would have gone for a slit on the dress, but her patterned touch sealed the deal. I bet her choice of red was influenced by the red colour of the Law Faculty sashe. The black touch on her dress and neck-piece, the black shoes and all her African accessories were in complete harmony.

Dress~ Tailor Tshego Maotoe (Facebook page: Tenacious Soul), Pretoria; Necklace~ made by a friend’s mom; Shoes~LeGit Store(bought 3 years ago); jewellery(head and wrist)~ Durban Taxi Rank; Make-up ~ Yolanda Mkhize (@yolamkhiza on Instagram & @beautybyyola on Facebook).

I was so impressed by just how many people wore pant suits to this season’s graduation. Ms Matsatsi Rasekgololo killed it👌👌 in her body fitting, pink pant suit. She gave it a touch of black (top and purse) that just made everything perfect, especially because her hair was long and black. The shiny details of her purse made it speak on its own as well as with the shoes. The ankle length pants left enough room for the shoes to be so outstanding. The length of her coat just made her look like a boss💪💪she was on that graduation day.

Blazer~ Zara; Pants~Forever New; Shirt- Edgars; Shoes – Steve Madden

Baby pink is a colour of peace for so many of us. It has a love language to it. Ms Risuna Mnisi knew exactly where she wanted the details of her dress to be. The lace design around her chest was everything that dress needed to be outstanding 😋. Her pulled back and gelled hair, nail polish, make-up and nude block heeled shoes were matched up perfectly 🤗🤗 for the occasion.

Dress~ Sissyboy, South Africa; Shoes~ LeGitStores; Earrings~ Clicks; Hair~ Risuna Mnisi; Make-up~ Tracy Mofokeng (Facebeatbytracy- Facebook page), Hatfield, Pretoria.

There is something about red>> An unspoken command. I first saw Ms Ntwanano’s dress on a friend at a wedding and thought it was perfect for the occasion. Little did I know it would be perfect for graduation. The big bow on the dress makes you turn your head whenever she walks in. Her simple accessories, make-up and black block heeled shoes gave the dress the attention it deserved. She toned down the other details of her outfit such that this awesome dress stood out. Despite having the gown on, the dress was still the center of attraction🤗🤗.

Dress~ YDE, Sandton City; Shoes~ Sole Candy, Mall of Africa, Midrand; All Jewellery~ Lovisa, Menlyn Mall, Pretoria.

Anyone who wore a beige outfit just spoke to my heart. Beige has a calming tone, commands respect and lots of love from the people who see you. The colour of Ms Natasha Ncube’s nail polish 💅 just had to fall into place with the Engineering faculty sashe. Her beige, under-the-knee-length dress spoke in complete harmony with her black and beige laced shoes👠. Her simple touch of accessories gave her that complete look she needed.

Dress~Pretty Little thing (UK) www.prettylittlething.com; Shoes~ Dorothy Perkins (UK) m.dorothyperkins.com; Make-up~ Tracy Mofokeng (Facebeatbytracy- Facebook page), Hatfield, Pretoria.

What would a graduation ceremony be without someone rocking a JUMPSUIT🤔🤔? Jumpsuits are the sauce to anyone’s closet. This mustard off-shoulder jumpsuit worn by Ms Selloane Seliane was an awesome pick. The mustard colour complimented her skin colour and worked in awesome way with her black heels and the red Law Faculty Sashe. Her shoulder length hair left her showing enough skin to attract attention as to the jumpsuit 😜😜😜.

GRADUATION: GENTS’ CORNER🕺

Category : Fashion

“I think fashion is a lot of fun. I love clothes. More than fashion or brand labels, I love design. I love the thought that people put into clothes. I love when clothes make cultural statements and I think personal style is really cool. I also freely recognize that fashion should be a hobby.”Anne Hathaway. These gentlemen absolutely observed these rules in their outfits. The gents’ corner was a must view.

Let’s take this hobby to another level and scout the gentlemen who stepped up their game this year at the graduation ceremonies. Don’t we all love a man in a thin tie/ styled up black or brown shoes/ grey or black suit/ well tailored and unique suit/ body hogging suit that brings out their muscular and sassy body shape/ glasses that make their eyes pop?….Guess the list doesn’t end.

(Video: Press Play; then Pause to download; then Play)

(Song: God’s Plan ;Drake)

Mr Darrol Drabile, wanted to make a statement 💪 for the Accounting Science students. This chocolate boy went for an all black very detailed suit. The buttoned design of his coat distinguished his black suit form the rest. The touch of gold on his tie & pocket square spoke of this golden Ugandan gentleman & his golden moment. What else would seal the deal better than the BROWNshoes👞👞 that communicated with the gold accessories he had on🙌👌; trust me, you can never go wrong with brown as it’s that gold colour that isn’t shiny. So gentlemen, get that colour and design of shoes that will make you look all dapper😍😍!

Suit –  Tidy Tucs Tailors; Shirt –  Carducci; Shoes –  Woolworths; Tie – Twill; Watch – Gift.

It is so amazing how his primarily beige suit was perfect👌👌, yet Mr Boipelo Khenisa didnt realise the immense impact he left on his fellow graduates, not to mention Akura. Boi’s thinblack tie made his outfit look absolutely stunning😁😉. His round necked half coat made his body and face command authority😍😍. The half coat’s colour and design spoke in unison with the pants as well as his suit’s jacket. The beigecheckered (mixed with a bit of grey) jacket and plain beige pants was the distinguishing factor on this dapper gentleman. The best option to this suit was an absolute black pair of monk shoes, which he passionately says he wanted. Boi absolutely delivered and ensured his graduation was a day to remember; certainly for the ladies🤗🤗.

Suit – Busani’s Men Wear, Braamfontein Tailor; Shoes – Zando Online; Tie – Twill; Watch (Tag Heuer Carrera) & Cotton Rich Buttoned Shirt – Gift.

It was an absolute pleasure seeing Mr Tlotliso not disappoint on this day; I must admit that after being in the same class with him for 4 years, I expected nothing less. His grey suit choice made me realise that engineers can also dress unlike what other students think. Yes😄, yes😄, yes😄 to the thin dotted tie this handsome man had on. His pants were just the right length leaving just the right👌 amount of his socks’ details to the observer. The black tinted tip of his brown shoes gave me that look that makes him a boyfriend material to those of us who judge a man by his shoes😜😜.

Shoes, Suit & Tie – Markhams, South Africa; Shirt – Polo.

A man in a turtleneck😍😍😋😊 with a suit; mmmmhhhhh💕💕. Absolutely no words but love❤. Mr. Songo Ndungane is an absolute stunner. This Civil Engineer has turned heads on campus daily for 4 years. He absolutely brought the gents’ graduation attires to another level👍. The olive lapel pin (flower) on the coat, navy blue (with red flowered patterns & money clip) pocket square & dark brown shoes gave his charcoalsuit the completion it required😆😆. The choice of his happy socks did not disappoint at all. This was an excellently executed outfit.

Charcoal Suit & happy Socks – Fabiani; Signal Turtleneck Top & Pocket Square – Markham; GQ Money Clip – Gift from GQ Magazine.

These gentlemen made me raid their closets. I hope they give you ladies an idea of how your men should dress when they need to attend that awesome ceremony with you. Just remember:

GRADUATION: AFTER P.A.R.T.Y💃

“LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO BE WEARING BORING CLOTHES. THE GRADUATION PARTY ONLY NEEDS INTERESTING OUTFITS.”

Graduation day must not end just after the ceremony>>>meaning, that second outfit should come as a package with the ceremony outfit. You can decide to change it completely or wear a part of the day-time attire to the after party.

Top – Custom made by Kennedy Kwame Owusu Sunnyside Pretoria; Pants – Gift; Earrings – LeGit Stores; Shoes – Gift: Bangle – Kariokor Market, Nairobi, Kenya; Make-up@mzzhaja Arcadia, Pretoria.

That outfit needs to communicate the mood you are in at that particular time. When you walk into that club or restaurant, let the people ask what the occasion is. “Clothes are like a good meal, a good movie,  great pieces of music” ~just communicate to everyone in your environment.

Did you have your outfit tailored? Why don’t you ask your tailor to make a sassy off-shoulder top with the remaining piece of material for you to wear with those favourite pants  and comfortable heels in your closet? You end up looking sassy, classy and keeping your pocket happy. The dangling earrings can now come into play because you don’t have the neck-piece. Give a classy touch to your wrist by putting on that cute bangle you love.

“What a strange power there is in clothes?” You want to feel comfy on that dance floor after wearing a tight dress during the day? Get those sassy and classy pants and top, match them up with a good and comfortable pair of black block heels and get ready to comfortably hit the dance floor the whole night. You can wear that classy crop-top that shows off your skin just to give you that sexy look that you deserve. Since your outfit commands attention, give it a simple touch of dangling silver earrings, finger ring and an African bangle.

Top – Gift; Pants & Shoes – Marabastad, Pretoria; Earrings – Lovisa, Menlyn Mall, Pretoria; Bangle – Kariokor Market, Nairobi, Kenya; Make-up@mzzhaja Arcadia, Pretoria.

Clothes can transform your mood and confidence.” If you want to move from that official kind of mood that was there during the day, then just hop into a dress. >>>Show off your legs, smooth skin and your body figure as much as you want. Gain that dance floor confidence and go wild because it is your day. Dangling or looped earrings will absolutely work with that short dress and of course with your hairstyle, (just hold your hair up in a sassy way if it long for those loops to work for you). The goldshoes make your legs unforgettable and leave you feeling comfortable because they have a platform, despite being high heeled.

DOES THE LANGUAGE OF THE OUTFIT COMMUNICATE THE JOY?

                                                            😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄

“A Great Dress Can make You Remember What Is Beautiful About Life”

(Video: Press Play; then Pause to download; then Play)

(Song: While I’m waiting;Travis Greene)

Most of us wait for 22 or 23 years until this day becomes a reality. Our passions lead us into different fields, all that matters at the end of the day is the joy we all receive when that hard work is acknowledged and we get that degree 🎓 . What better way to rejoice, other than when you are DRESSED to kill and all you aim for is that when everyone sees you, all they see is a SHOOTING STAR 🌟 >>>FIRE 🔥 & ELEGANCE 👑  being served all on the same plate.

Don’t we all want to look unique on our special days? Why not a sassy African attire? The African print dress with a Maasai touch (the neck-piece) was my ultimate choice. I had a slit on my dress because I love slits and believe that they give a classy touch (but I had to use one that would not give my mum a heart attack; a respectful slit for the occasion.) The neck piece and the hairstyle needed me to have calm earrings. As much as I love hanging earrings, they would have been the worst choice because my neck piece was already commanding attention. The shoes had to command attention because the gown was covering the details of the dress: let each entity of the outfit speak on its own.

(Video: Press Play; then Pause to download; then Play)

(Song: Imela (Thank you); Nathaniel Bassey ft Enitan Adaba)

We want that tailor made outfit or one we buy from stores. At the end of the day all that matters is how it makes us feel. This offshoulder and long-sleeved dress with a slit was a precious design because I knew that it would give me that precious smile 😀😀 that spoke to that precious outfit on that precious day .

Make sure that the make-up you have on your face can bring out your features and make your smile pop. You can try using fake eye lashes to make your eyes pop ( This is the second time I have used the eye lashes and I must say I liked the experience. It was so funny that my parents liked them.) I am a lover of rings; I would not have chosen anything better.~~The black ring commanded attention and spoke to the outfit.

The shoes 👠  and accessories 💍  have to speak to the clothes. Do you want your ~~shoe type and colour; purse or handbag; earrings, bangles, rings & neck-pieces; make-up, hairstyle~~ to speak on their own or as a unit with the clothes? The answer is YES YES YES….All of it goes.
