Coffee Date Fashion

Coffee Date Fashion

The best moments are the random ones, so they say. Well, the best random moments are definitely Random Coffee Dates that lead to a random photoshoot and having of tea instead of coffee . The most interesting part of a random date is its accompanying fashion. You can make a flawless outfit once you get your mind around it. I call it the Coffee Date Fashion, and Royal Danish in Pretoria was the best location for it.

Coffee Date

  • My Ice-cream Cup

I absolutely loved dressing up for this coffee date such that I deserved ice cream for it. Well, that had to come first because I am a sucker for ice-cream. My cup was full of a scoop of caramelized mint chocolate ice cream with some peanuts in it, certainly one of the best choices from facebook.com/royaldanishicecream.  The result of this was a serious smile for the rest of the day. This smile was more than needed because it served as a distraction from grief following the demise of my auntie.

  • The Outfit

I spent very valuable time with my roommate,  coming up with this outfit. We first settled on a white sexy top, but it didn’t cut it. We then settled on this red crop top all the way from America (in my excited voice), courtesy of a dear friend, Natasha https://www.instagram.com/tembiecollections/. The excitement of a trendy outfit being achieved was enough to make me happy.

Let’s talk about the CAP, dear Lord was I not scared? Initially, it seemed like it was out of my style zone, but then again it was love love love all the way as soon as it got on my head. The message on the CAP was the one message I needed. LOVE. The CAP complimented my brown braids in such a flawless way. What jewellery do you wear with a cap? This was an easy one, of course, LOOPS, and more so silver loops for a silver decorated cap.

  • Fashion Simplicity

These high-waist, ragged jeans were the other highlight of the coffee date fashion. The final touches were these white sneakers and red handbag and the jeans had to be accessorized by a simple black belt from Mr.Price. So it would be safe to say that the final touch was most definitely a simplified make-up look with RED LIPS. The final result was an ultimate and automatic simplicity in fashion.

I hope you have enjoyed my sentiments on this outfit and I hope you get a valuable random coffee date when things don’t seem to be going well. If so, Please share your sentiments with me on this post. Until next time just the simple rules of fashion styling:

Winter Fashion

Winter Fashion Styling is a struggle for me, what about you? I have taken time to focus on winter styling this year. This has given me an opportunity to realize the number of outfits in my closet that serve my fashion both in WINTER and SUMMER. I must admit that sweatpants and sneakers are the new winter fashion vibe in my closet this year.

Sweatpants -sneakers and sweatpants-boots combinations are an absolute stunning look. These fashion combinations are such a cool vibe that allows you the freedom to play with your outfits, and of course the events and locations the outfit would be amazing for.

Sweatpants-blazer is a new fashion vibe that I wear to feel absolutely “rich and feisty”: it is a look that certainly says ‘hallo I am here’. The colour choice matters, I would definitely go for black, grey and definitely a white and maroon one. Who says you can’t carry purses and handbags with sweatpants?

A must have in the closet is absolutely trench coats and certainly pair them up correctly. Trench coats absolutely make jeans and sweatpants a whole vibe for winter fashion. Best part is that they go well with any type of shoes. Although I own sort of three quarter trench coats, a must have trench coat should be a full length one.

Yes, winter fashion styling can be challenge, but you still have remember:

FAshionable Jeans

Fashionably Boy-X-Girl: Jeans

Can things go fashionably wrong? Absolutely yes. But the jeans touch can make it go fashionably right. This brings me to my newest fashion term; The jeans power. Both Max and I believe that torn jeans are a great addition to your wardrobe, because your  fashion narrative changes and your style takes different dimension altogether.

IG: https://www.instagram.com/max_coza/ & https://www.instagram.com/akuraclosetraid/

  • Location for photoshoot

Planning a shoot takes a lot of administration because you have to:  Find a photographer; Wake up on time; Get a hairstyle; and Get a shoot location; All these FAILED for two weeks. Basically, all went fashionably wrong, however, things eventually took a fashionably right turn. Flexibility in all you do matters and absolutely translates to your fashion sense, and most especially if it is an outfit that lets you be flexible like jeans.

  • Boyish jean top

I have developed a love for boyish fashion items that I can rock comfortably. So, I decided to rock my nephew’s jean top, and oh boy am I not glad I took this jean top that was lying in his suitcase. Additionally, Max’s jacket given the right colour of jean shorts or pants would be an amazing look if rocked by a girl. Bottom line is, we can rock that boy jean just by putting it together with the correct jean touch.

  • Torn Jeans

Max’s point of view : Torn jeans have always been an fashion area where I did not feel comfortable. I’ve always seen myself as the the guy who keeps everything “clean” but I have discovered that there is an art in the design and cut of torn jeans that still give you a clean look with an element of Kanye.  I buy my jeans and then play with the scissors to scalp my own design of “chaos”.

A girl can absolutely mash up a guy’s jeans, and the guy can end up complimenting the girl, like Max (https://www.instagram.com/max_coza/) did.

  • The Jean Skirt & Shirt
A jean skirt and jean top is  an absolute new fashion venture for me. Buying this skirt was a tick on the fashion bucket list and little did I know that it would be a favourite of many. Guess we all have that one closet item we buy but don’t realise its importance. Max’s jean outfit was an absolute compliment to this outfit. A fashion tip for you and your boyfriend when going on a date; get your man to match up to your taste.
The jean top that can be worn in more than one way. My 2019 fashion is aiming at helping us see just how creative we can be our fashion sense. Because of this, I did a video to show you how I achieved this two stylish looks for my jean shirt:  https://youtu.be/YZSLjSR_szU.

A Closet Of Mixed Ideas

The simplest explanation of “A Closet of Mixed Ideas” : We all have those pieces of clothing we want to rock differently in order to get away with cheap fashion. Well, this is what I always advocate for, and absolutely look for in any fashion item I buy. Remember, the idea is to have an affordable closet; You can manage to look all sorts of amazing and appear to have the richest closet by living within your means.

There are totally different ways to rock one clothe in your closet and make it look absolutely different. One of the many closet ideas we have are tied down to the shoes we wear, the jewellery and clutches/bags we rock an outfit with, and did I mention, our hair. Your biggest asset in mashing up your look is your hair, so run with it.

The one trick in the fashion world is to have outfits that have different colours. This is simply because you can manipulate them by matching them up with different coloured shoes and jewellery. Clothes that have an African-print touch never fail you on this aspect because they give you the fashion freedom you desire.

Dress: AkuraCollection & https://www.instagram.com/akuraclosetraid/?hl=en

Another trick is to have that one coloured outfit that you can absolutely rock with different types and colours of shoes. My recent realization in this aspect has been sky-blue and white clothes.

Hope this small passage gives you tips on some of the important hacks of the fashion world. Remember:

Black Friday Trick: Cheap and Sales

October is when all the excitement related to the BLACK FRIDAY begins, and on that fateful Friday in November we all lose it. This year I decided to do it differently and not wait for black Friday, because I knew the queues would be unbearable; I instead started my Black Friday fashion purchases at cheap prices in September and ended it a day before the actual date. The biggest trick I employed this year was  Sales, Sales, Sales, which kept my closet happy, but my bank account the happiest.

  • The Grey skirt that makes me smile

The multi purpose bodysuit I got for R80 is an absolute win. I wore it with this grey skirt that I was stunned to buy at R20 from LEGIT around May this year, a whole 6 months before Black Friday. The bodysuit looked pretty good with this pair of shorts I got for just R60 the day before black Friday.

Bodysuit – Mr Price; Skirt – Legit; Shoes – Aldo

  • Sales from Mr.Price

Dress and bag both cost me R50 and R80 respectively, resulting in an outstanding outfit that makes you look absolutely stunning for a throw away price. Looking for stuff in the sales section definitely is rewarding, buying stuff at cheap stores is also very rewarding because your closet stays happy while your pocket is the happiest.

Dress – Mr Price; Bag – Marabastad; Shoes – Aldo

This is by far my favorite 2018 combo, and not just because the outfit looks good, but mainly because it cost me just under R200; absolute proof that happiness exists in fashion when you can hack the black Friday trick. This is an attire you can comfortably wear to a party and semi-formal event.

The black Friday tricks hacked my 2018 fashion budget and I ended up with this epic outfit that would otherwise seem expensive.  A whole outfit just worth R160. You don’t need to slay expensively if you can hack the system. This amazing blazer was bought by my sister in Kenya at Ksh300, an equivalent of R30, skirt was worth R50.

Bodysuit & skirt – Mr Price; Coat – Ngara, Kenya; Shoes – Aldo

  • Sales from the new shop in Hatfield Plaza

Another hack to the fashion budgeting was this amazing dress coat that I literally got for R60. I must admit that this is the item that shocked me when I found myself in Creative Shop a day before Black Friday. I had walked into shops uncountable times hoping to get such a coat. I must admit I was ready to spend money on it, but black Friday tricks came in handy, legit gave me what I longed for at a throw away price.

Shoes – Mr Price; Coat – Creative Shop, Hatfield Plaza

This afternoon or night-out or  girls-meet outfit, from Creative Shop forms part of my 2018 Black Friday tricks. Shorts cost R50 and body suit from Mr Price cost R80. I basically, tricked my closet to have an amazing outfit that I could use for several events for just R130. Sincerely, anyone can look good and all it takes is knowing the tricks on how to slay on a budget.

Bodysuit & shorts – Mr Price;  Shoes – Aldo

I legit ensure that items in my closet range from R50- R170 without compromising on quality. My all year black Friday tricks got me this dress for just R100; a dress that would serve as an amazing smart casual, dinner or even a cocktail party dress.

Yellow Fashion Fever

The Yellow Fashion Fever

There is always a colour that fashionably sparks emotions in us. Well, my 2018 has been surrounded by the “Yellow Fashion Fever”. Several of my posts have had this yellow being featured, including my graduation outfit.

yellow fashion fever

yellow fashion fever

The immense love of yellow, started when I went to buy a black long skirt at my favourite shopping spot. The shop attendant looked at me and said, ”this yellow skirt (https://akuraclosetraid.com/2018/06/28/fashion-preference-long-or-short/) would look amazing on you”. There and then, my love for yellow began. I have not gone to the shop and failed to get a yellow outfit. My buddy Natasha says ‘we leaving yellow in 2018’, but I doubt if this love will come to an end.

yellow fashion fever

I must say that these two jumpsuits have been the epitome of my love for the “Yellow Fashion Fever”. They both had an outstanding feel when I tried them on. It was like I had found the colour that symbolises happiness, resilience, passion, elegance and love all at once.

The fact that they were different made me overlook the question of “why am I buying the same colour of clothes?” Each jumpsuit had its own personally touch to my closet.

yellow fashion fever

The short yellow jumpsuit stood out because of the belt, the one sided off-shoulder style and of course the buttons on the one arm. The fact that it would allow me to wear it with any colour of shoes was an absolute bonus.

The long jumpsuit was a complete stunner. My best friend saw it and all she thought of was, ‘birthday outfit’. Took a lot of discipline for me not to rock it to any events I had to attend before my birthday. The open back, the long strands that allows one to tie the jumpsuit in different ways, and the ‘flying’ style of the pants at the bottom were breath taking.

Yellow Fashion Fever

The best part about these outfits is that they both cost me less than R400 in total. My sister would say ” Slaying on a budget” . I would say  ” Slaying on a budget and with best emotions attached to what you wear“.

Explore Fashion Colourfully

It’s clear that Colour is of significance in the fashion industry and is now my everyday fashion language. In my 5 months of blogging, this journey has exposed the hidden love I have for colours. Colourfully exploring my fashion has been a delight.

The question remains, just how much colour is enough colour? Normally I keep to a maximum of three colours in my attires, but I believe the trend has been officially changed.

Fashion demands a tactful approach to clothes with colour. The most important thing is to ensure that the coordination in your style is on 100%.

Blue-Pink

By now it is more than evident I am the biggest fan of blue. This blue-pink coat is a gem simply because you can wear it with any attire and however you wish. A skirt, a short dress, a pair of shorts and pants would all look stunning with this coat. Well, being that summer is here; why not rock it with a pair of shorts and some colourful heels in your closet.

The make-up

My make-up artist always says that I’m risk-evasive when it comes to make-up choices. The amount of “fights” that take place during my make-up session with her are immense. She likes to explore with colours, and after this shoot, I am giving her full power to explore on my face colourfully. The green-blue make up worked with my skin and these attires that I’m now letting go of my fear of colourful make up.

Sparkle on the Black

Black would be dull without a sparkling colour to make a black outfit stand out. What best to explore with than red? The red loop hearings bring out an outstanding style to this simple outfit. The red African-print bag is a colourful addition that ensures the green African-print duke breaks the red monotony in an amazing style.

Bag – Kigali, Rwanda

Being Extra on Colour

I must admit that I was doubtful of this outfit when I wore it. I thought to myself; wow this is a lot of colour. However, to my surprise the outfit came across as my favourite. The duke, the purse, the earrings and the shoes all speak differently to this sassy coat, while ensuring an existing unison in this colourful language.

I hope this post just answers the question of just how much colour is too much colour. Don’t be afraid to explore your colourful language in fashion.
